GENERAL RULES(must be read in conjunction with lake specific rules below)
Any person wishing to fish at Cottington Lakes fishery, or visiting another angler, is responsible for ensuring that they are familiar with these rules, which are available through AKC Bait and Tackle, via the noticeboard (outside the Lake House Kitchen) or through the fishery website. Our rules exist to protect our fish stock and wildlife and help ensure that visitors to the fishery have an enjoyable, pleasant and, above all, safe visit.
* All anglers and guests accept and agree to abide by the fishery rules.
* For group bookings, if any angler within the group fails to comply with the fishery rules, the whole group will be deemed to have broken the rules.
* All anglers must possess a valid ticket.
* Anglers are permitted a maximum of one non-fishing guest at the lakeside. Guests must also possess a valid ticket.
* All anglers and their guests must park in the dedicated car parks only.
* All anglers and non-fishing guests without overnight tickets must leave the lakes site before the gates are locked. (Details of the times that the gates are locked are published at the main entrance and via the website.) Failure to do so may result in your being locked in overnight or being charged for a bailiff to attend and unlock the gate. (Please note that the charge for a bailiff to attend and unlock the gates is £20.)
* All anglers, irrespective of whether they hold a season ticket or are purchasing a day ticket, must possess a valid rod licence.
* Rod licences must be produced on demand to Fisheries management, bailiffs and/or AKC staff.
* Entrance gates (through the otter fencing) to the lakes must be kept closed at all times (except when in immediate use.)
* Fishing (casting) is only permitted from the bankside at designated pegs only. Anglers must not cast from the water.
* Anglers are only permitted to enter the water for the the direct and immediate welfare (and for the sole purpose) of managing fish which have been caught.
* Fishing is undertaken at your own risk and no responsibility will be accepted by the fishery.
* Anglers are required to respect all signs located on the site.
* Juniors (13 years and under) must be accompanied by an adult.
* Youths 15 years and under must be accompanied by an adult when fishing overnight.
* Coarse fishing on the dykes (where permitted) surrounding Cottington Lakes is prohibited from 15 March – 15 June.
* All fish must be handled with care and returned to the water as soon as possible.
* Anglers may use bivvies only. Use of tents is strictly prohibited.
* Anglers must use suitable (both for the fish and the lakes) equipment only.
* Where equipment is provided by the fishery (e.g. landing mats, nets etc.), its use is mandatory.
* Rods must not be left unattended whilst in the water.
* Anglers must not use braid mainline / reel line.
* Anglers may use braid hook lengths.
* Use of all leaders including lead core are prohibited.
* Anglers using carp rods must use a minimum of 24 inch tubing at all times (excl. zig or surface fishing.)
* Use of keep nets (with the exception of authorised competitions only), and use of carp sacks are strictly prohibited.
* Use of lures is strictly prohibited.
* Pike fishing with spinners or live bait is strictly prohibited. Anglers must use dead bait only.
* Use of fly fishing equipment / tackle is strictly prohibited on all lakes except for Windsor.
* All litter, perishable and non-perishable, must be removed from the lakes before leaving or placed in the wheelie bins at the entrance to the car park.
* No floating bait is to be used when wildfowl are on the lake.
* No shelf life boilies are to be loose fed.
* Use of bloodworm or joker is strictly prohibited.
* Use of whole nuts (incl. Tiger Nuts) is strictly prohibited.
* Use of bread is strictly prohibited.
* Instances of fish or wildlife becoming hurt, injured, hooked or entangled in line must be reported to AKC as soon as possible.
* Alcohol is permitted in moderation only. Excessive use of alcohol is strictly prohibited. Anglers must remain capable of safely managing (landing and handling) fish at all times and must not represent a risk to either themselves or other lake users. Manager’s/bailiff’s assessment is final.
* Dogs, radios and fires are not permitted.
* BBQs are permitted but must be raised off the ground.
* Hooks and line must not be discarded.
* Anyone found to be causing a disturbance/nuisance will be asked to leave.
* Visitors must not exceed the site speed limit (i.e. 10mph).
* Use of bait boats is strictly prohibited.
* The use of drones is strictly prohibited, unless authorised by management.
* All serious accidents (i.e those requiring the assistance of the emergency services) must be reported immediately to the duty manager.
* Fisheries Management reserve the right to amend fisheries rules at their discretion. Changes will be published via the website and the noticeboard.
PEPPER / CHRISTINE / ALDER & HERON LAKES RULES
Persons wishing to fish Lakes Alder, Heron, Christine and Pepper;
* Must be suitably experienced, or in the case of juniors, accompanied and under the direct supervision of someone suitably experienced. Access to Lakes Pepper and Christine is at the discretion of staff. Bailiffs / Managers may ask anyone who in their view is not suitably experienced to move to an alternate lake.
* May only fish from pegs 1 – 16 on Lake Pepper. Bailiffs swim remains open for exclusive use by Cottington Lakes bailiffs at all times, unless at the express direction of Cottington Lakes Management.
* Are limited to a maximum of 2 rods per swim at any one time and may only fish from one swim at a time.
* Must use hooks not exceeding size 4 (size 8 on Alder & Heron).
* Must use micro barb hooks
* Must not use fixed rigs.
* Must use a minimum of a 12lbs main line.
* Retaining fish is strictly prohibited.
* Must use large unhooking mats or cradles which must be dry prior to setting up.
* Must use landing nets of 42″ (minimum) and which must be dry and set up prior to use.
* Must use carp care kits at all times.
* Use of loose fed sweetcorn is prohibited.
* Are not permitted to fish over-night on Heron.
BLACK LAKE RULES
Persons wishing to fish Black lake;
* Are limited to a maximum of 2 rods per person at any one time.
* Must use barbless hooks only – maximum size 8.
* May use a maximum of 1kg ground bait.
* Must use unhooking mats which must be dry prior to setting up.
* Must use landing nets which must be dry, knotless, of a suitable size and set up prior to use.
* Must not use retaining slings.
MATCH / ELLIOT / WINDSOR LAKES RULES
Persons wishing to fish Match / Elliot / Windsor lakes;
* Are limited to a maximum of 1 rod or pole only at any one time.
* Must use barbless hooks only – maximum size 10.
* Are limited to a maximum of 4 pints maggot / meat / sweetcorn / casters and 1 kilo (max) of groundbait per angler, to be used in pole cup or feeder only.
* Are limited to a maximum of 2 kilo carp pellets per angler, no high oil pellets such as trout or halibut.
* Must not place pole rollers on bunds and poles not to be shipped over bunds.
* Must use landing nets which must be dry, knotless, of a suitable size and set up prior to use.
* Are not permitted to fish over-night.
Failure to comply with any of the rules may result in you being asked to leave the complex. Return to the complex is purely at the Management’s discretion.
