Netting on Christine and Pepper Lakes – Days 2 & 3 Pepper

November 28, 2014Cottington Lakesnews

Day 2 – Pepper Lake (New)

We again made 5 sweeps of the lake covering its entirety followed by a final sweep re-covering the most prolific area of fish. This was a very mixed day. The first net of the day saw us remove approximately 800 lb of silver fish and catalogue a handful of the carp in the lake including a couple of over 30 lbs carp. The remaining sweeps netted very little other than a quantity of pike, all of which were returned to the lake. Once again the final sweep of the day retracing our steps over the earlier most prolific sweep, but which netted very little on this occasion.

Day 3 – Pepper Lake (Old)

The old part of Pepper Lake was covered in 3 sweeps. Again the first two sweeps netted very little although again it provided an opportunity to catalogue some of the carp including two that weighed in at over 40 lbs.

However, the old adage of saving the best till last was once again true. The final sweep of the day netted a further 700 lb of silver fish together with a magnificent quantity of carp, including 26 weighing in at over 30 lbs and a further 7 weighing in at over 40 lbs.

Highlights must be these:

 39 lb Common

39 lb 8 oz Common Carp

 48 lb Mirror Carp

48 lb Mirror Carp

And a few of the rest:

The fish that were removed from the specimen lakes were distributed across the lake complex with the majority of silver fish being moved to Windsor Lake. Look out for a separate update regarding these.

Many thanks to Martin and Phil for their expertise and who we would happily recommend to anyone considering a similar exercise. Also our thanks go to everyone else who helped out, particularly Martin, Nick, Steve, Paul, Mark, Ian and Duane who all gave their time so freely and to those who just happened to be present and pitched in.

Thank you.
