Specimen carp always attract attention so it add a nice spice of variety to report on something a little different here at Cottington Lakes. Friends Ben McDonnnell and Ian Hambrook decided to work off some of their seasonal festive cheer with some rigorous exercise, pike fishing on Black Lake between Boxing Day and New Year’s eve. And a very successful stint it was too:
This first pike was 15lbs 11oz, caught by Ben off the island on black lake, on a deadbait smelt:
Next up was this pike weighing in at 15lbs 14oz. This one was caught on a dead bait sprat, also by Ben:
Ian’s first pike, also on smelt, weighing in at 13lbs:
After a quick swap of swims, Ian also had this pike, again caught on a smelt, estimated weight was between 12lb – 13lb:
This pike came along at about 5 to 5 one morning on half a mackerel. Clearly it enjoyed Ian and Ben’s company as this is the same fish that Ian caught a few days earlier and still weighing in at 13lbs, but this time caught by Ben.
In addition to the above, the two friends also had another 3 pike, 2 out of Black Lake one at 8lbs and the other approximately 10lbs, both on a smelt dead bait. The last one the pair had came from the dyke next to Black Lake and was about 2lbs so only a small one but with plenty of room to grow!!
