Friday 3rd July to Sunday 5th July saw Cottington Lakes playing host to the Dave Wall Memorial Match. This popular annual pairs event in Cottington’s calendar, fished over both Lakes Pepper and Christine, is always fiercely competitive and this year was no exception, despite the fish still recovering from spawning and bites always going to be at a premium.
I was lucky enough to observe the technique of the winning pair, two of the Lakes’ Bailiffs, Paul (Mango) Manderson and Richard Skardon (two of Cottington’s finest!) fishing on Lake Christine’s pegs 3 and 4, which owed more to picnicking than angling!! Nevertheless the technique clearly works as this laid back approach netted Mango and Rich a total catch of 8 fish weighing 127lbs 4ozs.
Second was Ann Wall with three fish weighing in at 87lbs 6ozs. Ann, fishing with husband Andy on Peg 8 of Pepper, landed two personal best Mirrors weighing 37lbs and 40lbs and took the trophy for the heaviest fish.
Many thanks to everyone involved for their generosity in raising funds for Dave’s two children and to Ian Cannon once again for the great b-b-q.
